Jeff Healey was one of most talented musicians in rock & blues history, who passed away at age 41 only.
Canadian musician lost his sight due to rare retino blastoma cancer of the eyes before he was one year old only. He played his Fender Stratocaster guitar flat on his lap, not standing up, developing his unique style.
After his appearance in the movie Road House with Patrick Swayze, he signed to Arista records, and soon released the Grammy-nominated album "See the Light". Healey quickly became international star who had played with such rock and blues icons as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Harrison and Mark Knopfler .
Since early years of XXI century Healey began to change his musical preferences. He taught himself to play the trumpet, opened a music club named after himself in Toronto and he started his jazz band in 2003.
Despite his battle with cancer he continued shows in his earlier blues-rock style, but in the meantime he released three jazz albums and increasingly gigged with his jazz combo, the Jazz Wizard.
In 2008 Healey died of cancer at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto. He left his wife, Cristie, daughter Rachel (13), son Derek (three) and sisters Laura and Linda.
