Two legendary veterans of jazz guitar, Larry Coryell and Philip Catherine were guests at Jazzwoche's concert "Night of Jazz Guitars" in Burghausen, Germany, 2011. One of jazz standards they performed was "Nuages", most popular composition by Django Reinhardt. Their versions was far from what we call "gypsy jazz", but interesting, no doubt.
Larry and Phllip are in nearly same age. Philip was born 6 months earlier. Both began professional career in mid 1960s. In 1965 Larry Coryell became part of Chico Hamilton's quintet, replacing Gabor Szabo. In 1967-68 he recorded with Gary Burton. Philip Catherine in 1960s was a member of the Jean-Luc Ponty Quintet. He was also a member of the Dutch rock group Focus replacing Jan Akkerman.
