Águas de Março (The Waters of March) written by Antônio Carlos Jobim in 1972 (music and lyrics) was voted as the second greatest Brazilian song by the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone magazine and named as the all-time best Brazilian song in a poll of more than 200 Brazilian journalists.
Jobim's bossa nova songs are associated by many with Brazilian sun and beach. But Águas de Março was inspired by Rio de Janeiro's rainiest month.
The most famous recording of the Águas de Março song was by Brazilian singer Ellis Regina in 1972, but he number of artists who recorded it is very impressive and includes such names as Astrud Gilberto, Georges Moustaki, Stan Getz, Sérgio Mendes, Art Garfunkel, Al Jarreau, Casandra Wilson, John Pizzarelli and even Charlie Sheen actor.
