Phil Emmanuel dies suddenly at 65

Phil Emmanuel, Australian guitarist, brother of legendary fingerstyle vistuoso Tommy Emmanuel has died suddenly at the age of 65 after suffering an asthma attack in Parkes, New South Wales, Australia. He left his wife Amanda and his children Jessie Maree, Jamie Lee, Georgia Dee and Marshall Travis.
Phil Emmanuel started his professional musician career when he was nine years old. He was playing in the family band: “The Emmanuel Quartet”, later renamed to “The Midget Surfaries” and to “The Trailblazers”.Phil played lead guitar, his borther Tommy played rhythm guitar, another brother Chris played on drums and their sister Virginia on slide guitar. Virginia died just weeks ago, aged 69, on April 14.
Phil and Tommy also played together as the Emmanuel Brothers — as well as individually. Phil formed his own band and been described as “Australia’s greatest electric guitar player”.
