Gary Brooker, the frontman of 1960s rock band Procol Harum, has died at the age of 76. Brooker died at his home from cancer on Saturday, February 19th. Brooker went on to form Procol Harum in 1966, and released their best-known song the following year. A Whiter Shade of Pale with haunting organ line, loosely based on Bach's Air on the G String reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart in 1967 and number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100. This was onne of the most commercially successful singles in history, having sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. Since then , "A Whiter Shade of Pale" has become classic, with more than 1,000 known cover versions by other artists.
