Blues as a musical genre has roots in African-American tradition and history, originated on Southern plantations in the 19th Century. Grown up in deep South of the Mississippi Delta, spread out to the Midwest until the 1930s and '40s when evolved into electrified Chicago blues, other regional blues styles, and various jazz-blues hybrids. The blues guitar plays a heavy role in blues music as well as in modern music. Early Delta blues Figures such as Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Son House and Blind Willie McTell used a lot of finger picking techniques and slide guitar innovations. Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters pushed the acoustic blues guitar into the electric world. Today blues become a multi-cultural genre with artists playing and singing Blues in every corner of the world.
