Cry Me a River, written by Arthur Hamilton in 1953 was always one of my favorite bluesy jazz standards. Interesting fact is that the song was originally intended to be written for Ella Fitzgerald to sing in the 1920s, but idea was dropped and finally Ella first sang it in 1961.
Other famous singing performances of "Cry Me a River" were by Julie London, Barbra Streisland, Lesley Gore, Joe Cocker, Michael Bublé, Dinah Washington, Diana Kral. And instrumental by Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Ray Brown, Joe Pass.
Even American rock band Aerosmith has "Cry Me a River" in their repertoire!
As our site is guitar related we found video with one of guitar Gods, Jeff Beck who performed "Cry Me a River" together with Immelday May, Irish singer as part of their "Jeff Beck Honors Les Paul' show at The Iridium Jazz Club N.Y.C. in June 2010.
