Recuerdos de la Alhambra (Memories of the Alhambra) is probably the most famous tremolo piece for classical guitar. Written by Spanish composer and guitarist Francisco Tárrega in 1896 after visiting the Alhambra in Granada. The manuscript of the first version was originally entitled "Improvisacion! A Granada! Cantiga Arabe", and dedicated to dona Concha Iacoby as an evocation of the visit they payed together to the Alhambra. Conchita Iacoby and
Francisco Tarrega had a rather stormy relationship, so when the piece was published in Barcelona the title was changed into "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" and the dedication to dona Concha was replaced by "Hommage à l'eminent artiste Alfred Cottin".
Before attempting to play the piece, you should already possess a well-practiced tremolo.
Xuefei Yang from China who plays Recuerdos de la Alhambra in video does it really good!
