"The Prodigal Son" is Ry' Cooder's new solo release in six years, released on May 11, 2018 through Fantasy record label.
71 years old veteran of bluegrass and slide guitar returns to the intimacy of a small gritty band that refers to gospel music, black and white, colouring it with his bottleneck guitar over his drummer son Joachim. There are three Cooder's original songs and eight more vintage folk-blues tunes written or popularized by Blind Willie Johnson, the Stanley Brothers and the Pilgrim Travelers.
