On July 15 Britain's greatest guitar and lute virtuoso Julian Bream celebrated his 85th birthday. Bream had retired in 2002 after 55 years of professional performing, but still many consider Bream as one of the 3 greatest players in the classical guitar history,
Bream got his first classical guitar from his father, a commercial illustrator and jazz band guitaris when he was 11. At the age of 12, he played at the London Philharmonic Society of Guitarists and at 13, he made his professional debut in Cheltenham. At 15, he won a full scholarship at London's Royal College of Music where he studied piano and cello.... By the late 50s, in his early 20s, Bream had established himself as a professional lutenist and guitarist.
