Henry Purcell was the most important English composer of his time (1659-1695). He received his earliest education at Chapel Royal as a chorister. From 1674 he tuned the organ at Westminster Abbey. Purcell seems to have spent all his life in Westminster. Purcell was best known as a songwriter. Many of his songs were printed in his lifetime and were reprinted many times after his death. Some time later he started to work on a more fashionable type of instrumental music—a series of sonatas for two violins, bass viol, and organ (or harpsichord). In 1689, he wrote Dido and Aeneas (libretto by Nahum Tate) for performance at a girls’ school in Chelsea. From that time until his death, he was constantly employed in writing music for the public theatres. Many of Purcell/s works, especially those written for hapischord were arranged for the guitar. This includes "A new Ground" (ZT 682), Hornpipe from Abdelazer's Suite and Jigg, transcribed by Segovia.
All three pieces were performed with outstanding artistry by Hungarian classical guitarist Péter Girán at the International Guitar Festival Balatonfüred in Hungary,
