TanVal was composed by Benoit Glazer for Robert Phillips' project, The Orange Blossom Dances, a set of classical guitar solos in dance rhythms by Central Florida based composers.
Glazer spent years as music director of the Orlando edition of Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba. The circus esthetic permeates this clever and compelling dance, part tango and part waltz. It is in 5/8 time (think Paul Desmond’s Take Five) and conjures an image of a person performing a lopsided yet strangely graceful dance on a high wire.
