One of the most commercially successful and influential groups in popular music history, Pink Floyd was formed by schoolmates Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright in 1965. Guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd in December 1967. With 1973's Dark Side Of The Moon and 1979's The Wall, the band created two of the most ambitious—and best-selling—albums of all time. Other albums from Pink Floyd's gold era Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), and The Final Cut (1983) were almost same successful. Pink Floyd disbanded in 1995, reunited for a one-off performance at the global awareness event Live 8 in 2005.
