Rosetta Tharpe (1915 – 1973) was American singer, songwriter and guitarist attained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s with her gospel recordings and was often referred as "the original soul sister" and "the godmother of rock and roll".
Tharpe's biggest hit "Down By The Riverside" was selected for the American Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
Rosetta influenced such great artists as Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. She was touring with Muddy Waters and Otis Spann, Ransom Knowling and Little Willie Smith, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.
