A song with a beautiful melody, which originally told the story of an interprid Pyrenean shepherd who was jealous of his freedom. A new text was written by Jaume Masso i Torrents, lamenting the loss of Catalonia's ancient right to autonomous goverment. From 1897 onwards Morera performed the song in his own choral arrangement, using the text by Masso i Torrents. Llobet composed his version for guitar shortly afterwards, in 1899, aged only 21.
