Matanya Ophee, was the esteemed, influental scholar and founder of the music publishing house Editions Orphée, Israeli by birth he emigrated to the U.S. in 1965. For most of his professional life he worked as a commercial pilot in the U.S., but was also heavily devoted to the classical guitar, playing it, teaching it, writing about it. He wrote many articles and reviews for Classical Guitar magazine beginning in the mid-1980s.
