Ralph Towner is best known as a key ECM recording jazz artist for over 40 years. He began his career as a conservatory-trained classical pianist and studied classical guitar at the Vienna Academy of Music with Karl Scheit, the renowned Austrian guitarist, lutenist and teacher. He co-founded the groundbreaking band Oregon in 1970, with Collin Walcott, Glenn Moore and Paul McCandless. He contributed to albums by Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Kenny Wheeler, Egberto Gismonti, John Abercrombie and Gary Burton.
